Nursery Part 3

So the nursery is coming together, and is officially my favorite place in the house! I love just sitting in my new refurbished rocking chair just taking in every dream come true this room represents! It is completely decked out in yellow, grey, chevrons, and safari animals!
Here is the view from his door :)
My mother in law bought us that awesome reclining rocker,
and my mom had it reupholstered to mach the nursery.

Here is his Armoire/ changing table
This is my post  about how we made it
My friend Jammie got him the animal stands to hold
his toy box and box of books
My sister Grace got him the You are my Sunshine
lyrics sign for his wall

Some of the pictures on his walls
to go in frames from my friend Amanda
A Basket I made to go downstairs for when he needs changed,
and we don't want to go to the nursery
Thank you to Amanda for getting us the basket for our shower :)

Turning an Armoire into a Changing Table

One of the 1st decisions I made about the nursery is that I wanted to use an armoire that came with our bedroom set that we didn't use once we got a house with walk in closet
My mom bought and set up most of the Changing Table for us as our shower gift. She got the Changing pad and cover from Babies R US. She made a Sunshine mirror for baby to look at himself while getting changed, and put a refillable soap for hand sanitizer next to his elephant a friend bought him that makes white noise (according to Jenni June child sleep consultant it is good for you to have white noise in nursery, but not to keep too close to the crib, so this is where our noise elephant will live)
She added a dish drying mat that matches our nursery to protect the wood, and then got a small shelf to put the wipes warmer and different small things that are convenient to have on hand during  baby's changing!
Stick some scrapbook stickers on a shower caddy and you have a Baby Bathtime Caddy
We got lots of separators from the dollar store to keep all his cute stuff organized
My mom being the amazing grandma that she is even painted grey and yellow chevrons on the hedge hog to make the door hanger she bought match the rest of our theme :)

Nursery Part 2

The walls are grey thanks to my awesome mother and sister in law :)
My mother in law got us this great end table that matches his furniture to go next to the rocking chair once finished.
For Easter my mom gave him some picture frames.
My sister in law gave him stuffed animals that go with the theme, and my friend Megan got us some books to read while rocking him :)

We finished his mobile, but won't hang it until I settle on where I want the Crib :)
Here is a link to how we made it! Making a Mobile
His closet is full of diapers and wipes from our gender reveal party :)
Most of the gifts we have been given for him so far are toys, so this is the start to his toy box :)
The basket is actually from Jenna's nursery. I took the pink liner out then added leftovers from his mobile, so it would match!
This is not necessarily where they will stay, but here is his crib, changing table/ dresser, and the grey and yellow chevron laundry basket his Auntie Stevie bought him.
After months of airing out his crib mattress (I will post about that separately) it is now in his crib with his mattress cover and bedding.
The bedding is all grey and yellow with Safari animals on it :)

I will post more as we continue to finish our little man's room :)

Making a Mobile

Supplies needed:
  • Fabric: I got a yard of each grey and yellow and had way too much. For the Green and blue I just got fabric sample squares from Joann's, and it was just right for one each.
  • Ribbon: I got all white, but you could use one color to wrap the hoop and another color to hang the poof balls.
  • Wood Embroidery Hoop: The middle comes out, so there is nothing on the outside
  • Styrofoam Balls: I bought 2 inch and 2 1/2 inch, but ended up just using the smaller (they seem bigger once the fabric is on them)
  • Glue gun: With lots of hot glue sticks
  • Good fabric scissors
  • Keyring
  • A small circle: To measure the circles before cutting (I used a glass cup)
  • A pencil: To draw the circles on the back of the fabric
  • Small bows: To attach to where the poof balls attach to the Embroidery Hoop
  • A lighter
  • Friends and a good movie!
Wrap Embroidery Hoop and Keyring with ribbon, and hot glue the ends.
  • Trace about 30 circles for each poof ball you are making
  • Cut the circles out

  • Fold each circle in 1/2 (color on the outside)
  • Place a dot of glue on the inside at the center of the crease
  • Then fold in 1/2 again
  • Place another dot of glue in the center of the crease
  • They will look like little fortune cookies
Cover the styrofoam balls with about 30 little folded circles attaching with hot glue
Finished poof balls will look like this

  • Once poof balls are finished hot glue them to different lengths of ribbon.
  • Hot glue them to the Embroidery Hoop evenly spaced apart.
  • Hot glue 4 evenly measured pieces of ribbon  to the Embroidery Hoop between the ribbons to the poof balls going up.
  • Tie each of the ribbons going up to the keyring
  • Hot glue bows to where the ribbons for the poof balls attach to the Embroidery Hoop
  • Tie a bow on top
  • Then with lighter gently burn the ends of all ribbon, so they don't fray

We haven't hung it yet, because I can't settle on where I want the crib.
Hanging it from the ceiling is the last step :)

Nursery ~ Part 1

Step 1 was to prep the Nursery, so before Mike left he moved Thing 1 and Thing 2's rooms to make the room next to ours the Nursery :) He and my amazing mother in law deep cleaned the room, the walls, the floor boards, closet, and the window!
Then Mike surprised me by setting up the Crib!
We picked out our crib in my 1st trimester, and it was our 1st big baby purchase! We mostly bought it right away, because Mikes boss had me make is fantasy football picks for him and when he won he gave me the money for the crib :)
Thanks again Warren!
We knew we wanted a 4 way convertible in solid cherry wood, and after a weekend of shopping fell in love with this one from the comfort of our home computer
(yay for being Amazon Prime members)

Next step was choosing the colors for the Nursery! It was actually when buying a Boppy Pillow that we decided we both really like yellow.  I told Mike he could pick whatever one he wanted as long as it was the minky fabric, and he picked yellow. From there we started looking for yellow color combs that we like, and both loved Grey and yellow most! I never would have thought of grey for a nursery, but now I adore it more than the yellow part!
This was the 1st small nursery decor that we bought to base the rest of the room off of!
Our Theme is You Are My Sunshine!

Next is painting the nursery. This weekend my mom and I went Nursery decor shopping, and looked for colors we liked... we liked a lot! Today Sara and I tested them in the room for what looked best in the lighting with Yellow and Cherry wood, and narrowed it down to a top 2. My mother in law is going to paint for me seeing Mike is gone and we don't want the paint to harm the baby at all. She gets the final say between the last 2 colors, because she is better with things like this than I am :)

In the mean time I am working on making a mobile, curtains, and my parents are having Jenna's rocking chair redone to match the nursery :) I will post pictures as things get finished!
